Chapter Ten
Hawkfrost felt a such a confusing mix of love and anger it nearly knocked him off his paws and made him want to cry. He felt his claw unsheathe despite the truce as he stared at Brambleclaw, unblinking. The brown tabby’s back was turned, so he didn’t notice Hawkpaw’s ice-blue gaze, which was narrowing into a fierce glare. “What’s a matter?” The tortoiseshell RiverClan apprentice asked. Hawkpaw’s brown fur bristled. “Him staring at me was annoying, that’s all.” He lied. Turtlepaw didn’t look convinced but nodded. Hawkpaw barely heard the meeting he was too busy focused on his confusing feelings for his “brother”. He was taken by surprise as Mistyfoot gently nudged him. “Come on, it’s time to go.” The blue-gray she-cat mewed. Hawkpaw nodded dumbly and stalked off with his Clan, shooting venomous looks at Brambleclaw.
“Let all cats old enough to catch their own pre y gather here beneath the Riverstone for a Clan meeting!” Leopardstar yowled. Hawkpaw, who was now a strong apprentice of about twelve moons, sat as close to the Highrock as possible, his gaze fixed on Leopardstar. He knew what this was. His warrior ceremony. “I, Leopardstar, leader of RiverClan, call on my warrior ancestors to look down on this young apprentice. They have trained hard to understand your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn.” Her emerald gaze met Hawkpaw’s ice-blue eyes as she asked, “Hawkpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and defend the Clan, even at the cost of your life?” Hawkpaw nodded, his tail twitching with excitement. “I do.” He mewed earnestly. “Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you warrior name. Hawkpaw, from this day forward, you shall be known as…” The spotted golden-brown tabby RiverClan leader hesitated, as if she weren’t sure about his name. Hawkpaw’s fur prickled nervously. Why did she seem so uneasy about his warrior name? Finally, Leopardstar took a deep breath and continued, “From this day forward, you shall be known as Hawkfrost.”
Hawkpaw’s ice-blue eyes stretched open wide. Hawkfrost? His mind was in a whirl, but trembling, he licked Leopardstar’s shoulder respectfully. He turned to face the Clan, to see them all staring at him as if he had turned into a badger. Finally, Turtlepaw called feebly, “Hawkfrost! Hawkfrost!” The rest of the Clan joined in, except Mothwing who stared nervously at her paws. The newly named Hawkfrost’s fur bristled angrily. So what if the had the same name? That didn’t mean he couldn’t be a loyal RiverClan warrior! After the chanting had died down and Leopardstar instructed him to guard the camp that night, the dark brown tabby ran over to Mothwing. She answered without looking at him. “Um, hello, Hawkfrost. Congratulations, I’d love to talk but I’m…busy.” She mewed, he voice faltering. Hawkfrost’s eyes narrowed as she hurried into her den without looking back. He glared up skyward. StarClan, what are you doing to me?
Currently I'm work on a group of serial novels about vampire hunters which I want to publsih so I may work on that more I'm afraid. Still, I'll try (keyword 'try') to work on my fanfics as well.

Chapter Eleven
“Turtlepaw, wait up!” Hawkfrost called out, laughing as the apprentice rushed ahead. The tortoiseshell she-cat’s mentor, Beechfur, had asked Hawkfrost to take Turtlepaw hunting while he went on sunhigh patrol. The dark brown tabby had gladly accepted. It was a little lonely without the familiar tortoiseshell’s scent and touch. They had had a fairly successful hunt so far. Hawkfrost had caught two fish and three voles, and Turtlepaw had caught a mouse, two voles, and a fish. Hawkfrost’s pelt prickled uneasily as they neared the Twoleg green leaf placed, and he made sure to always keep an ice-blue on the RiverClan apprentice. Suddenly, to his horror, he couldn’t see the tortoiseshell pelt of his friend anywhere. “Turtlepaw?” He called softly. No answer. “Turtlepaw!” He called again, sounding scared and desperate. “Turtlepaw!” Instantly a heavy weight landed on Hawkfrost back. His dark brown fur bristled, and he was about to defend himself, when all he received was a gentle nip on the ear. “Gotcha!” Turtlepaw mewed teasingly, jumping off Hawkfrost, her tail flicking happily. Hawkfrost narrowed his ice-blue eyes, struggling not to lose the feeling of anger. “That’s no way to treat a warrior!” He growled, though their was laughter in his eyes. Turtlepaw’s tail continued to flick. “Barely a warrior! It’s only been a quarter moon…hang on, I smell squirrel!” She hissed, and crouched low to the ground. Before long, the little red-brown creature came into view, scrabbling frantically at the ground with its tiny claws. It gripped an acorn firmly, and began to dart off. Turtlepaw quickly stalked after it. When she was about a tail-length away, the squirrel noticed her and darted over to the small Thunderpath, heading in the direction of ShadowClan territory. “Don’t cross the border!” The dark brown tabby hissed as his friend raced after the squirrel. Turtlepaw flicked her tail in acknowledgement and darted onto the Thunderpath at a very fast speed. Then time slowed. She leapt through the air and pounced on the squirrel. With a swift bite to the back of its neck, she killed the creature and lifted it in her jaws. Suddenly, heir was a loud thumping sound. Hawkfrost opened his eye a slit to see if his fears had been confirmed. They had. “Turtlepaw!” He yowled, and raced across the Thunderpath, spitting at the monster that just strode off. He nosed the tortoiseshell she-cat gently, and felt a faint heartbeat, which was beginning to slow. Instantly Hawkfrost gripped Turtlepaw by the scruff, murmuring gentle words to the unconscious she-cat. Running with the speed of StarClan, he hurried back to camp.
Ebilness, lol.

Chapter Twelve “Well? What do you think?” Hawkfrost demanded as Mothwing and Willowstream nosed Turtlepaw all over. Mothwing looked up at the RiverClan warrior, her amber eyes narrowed in such a glare Hawkfrost could barely keep himself from flinching. “Hawkfrost, how many times must I tell you we don’t know yet? We’re lucky that she hasn’t snapped her spine!” Mothwing growled impatiently. “Look, if you hang around here worrying, Willowstream and I won’t get anywhere.” She added a little more gently. With one more desperate, horror-filled look at the limp apprentice, Hawkfrost left the medicine cat den, only to be confronted by Beechfur. “Hawkfrost.” “Beechfur,” The dark brown tabby replied dipping his head. “Look, I’m really sorry…” “Sorry?” The light brown tom snarled angrily. “Sorry? She was almost ready to be a warrior, and all you can say is sorry? This is all your fault!” The older RiverClan warrior growled accusingly. Hawkfrost’s dark tabby fur bristled angrily, and his eyes became cold chips of blue ice. “My fault? You’re the one who wanted her to hunt while on patrol!” He retorted angrily. Beechfur’s claws unsheathed, and Hawkfrost could see it was taking all of the light brown tabby’s self-control not to sink them into his flesh. Hawkfrost stared back challengingly, and Beechfur, having no reply, slunk off. The dark brown tabby felt an angry, grim satisfaction at winning the argument. Still, thinking about Turtlepaw lying limp in the apprentice den made his stomach clench. He went over to the fresh-kill pile to get a mouse, wondering food would help the pain. After a bite or two, Hawkfrost just idle prodded it with one long white claw, knowing it wasn’t hunger that caused his pain. He scooped it up in his mouth and entered the medicine cat den. Mothwing glared at him again, obviously knowing he was here worrying about Turtlepaw, but gratefully accepted the mouse when he offered. “Thank you, Hawkfrost.” The dappled golden she-cat mewed, then added briskly, “Now go on!” The dark brown tabby cast one more despaired glance at the tortoiseshell and white apprentice, then walked out of the den. Leopardstar greeted him with a rusty purr. “Hello, Hawkfrost. Splashrose’s kits will be apprentices in a moon or so, and I think you’d make a wonderful mentor by that time. I’d recommend you go meet them to get to know who could be your future apprentice.” The RiverClan leader meowed. Hawkfrost didn’t want to do that. He had a feeling that it was just a plan the spotted golden-brown she-cat had to take the RiverClan warrior’s mind off of Turtlepaw, but he growled a reluctant thanks and padded off to the nursery. He watched her four kits Rainkit, Blazekit, Heavykit, and Nightkit play fight and try to catch little bugs. They were good kits, and would probably make nice warriors someday, but that only reminded him of Turtlepaw’s energetic spirit. He shut his ice-blue eyes mournfully, and slipped out of the nursery. Fury rose in him, and he went to the warriors den to get some sleep. There was a certain cat he had to speak to.

Chapter Thirteen “Tigerstar! Tigerstar!” Hawkfrost yowled as he ran through the dark forest, his ice-blue eyes narrowed furiously. In response, a dark brown tabby jumped on him. The two were in writhing tussle, and Hawkfrost looked up to see burning, angry amber eyes. It looked like Tigerstar, but he seemed…different. The RiverClan warrior then realized it was Brambleclaw. “You…foxdung…” Brambleclaw hissed. “I thought I’d find you here. You don’t deserve to walk among Clan cats!” The ThunderClan deputy spat. “I’ll give you a little present to keep as you wander the Place of no Stars!” The two instantly began fighting again. The dark brown tabbies clawed screeched, hissing and spitting as blood formed from the claw and fang marks. A third dark brown tabby crashed into them, separating the two. “Enough.” Tigerstar growled coldly, staring at his sons with contempt. The amber and ice-blue eyes locked, filled with unspent hostility. “Brambleclaw, you traitor. Leave this place.” He hissed. Brambleclaw nodded. “Gladly.” The ThunderClan warrior responded, slinking off with a furious gleam in his amber eyes. “Now, what is it Hawkfrost?” The former ShadowClan leader asked calmly. “You said you were more powerful than StarClan? Why didn’t you stop Turtlepaw’s accident?” Hawkfrost spat, his ice-blue eyes narrowed challengingly. Tigerstar casually licked his paw and began to groom his ears. “Even I can’t do everything. And even if I could’ve saved her, I wouldn’t have.” The dark brown tabby replied unsympathetically. Hawkfrost just stared on, too furious to speak. “Love would get in the way of your ambitions. There’s nothing wrong with taking a mate to carry on your bloodline, but you mustn’t let them distract you.” “But what about Sasha? And Goldenflower?” Hawkfrost yowled furiously. “I told you, I needed them to have kits. I needed them to have you, so you can rule the forest.” Tigerstar meowed, his voice lowering into an intense hiss filled with fatherly love. “You are the apple of my eye, the only thing important to me, my son, my precious kit…” Hawkfrost’s fur bristled and he stepped away from his father as the former ShadowClan leader tried to lick him between his ears. “I am not your son.”

Chapter Fourteen A groan escaped Hawkfrost’s lips as he woke up. Parts of his fur were stiff with dried blood from his dreams the night before. The dark brown tabby tom got up and shook himself, licking the remaining blood off his pelt. He had to cover his scratches as much as possible; cats would get suspicious, especially that meddlesome Mothwing… Turtlepaw! He remembered suddenly. He jumped to his paws and hurried out of the warriors den, and over to the medicine cat‘s den. The dappled gold she-cat and her pale gray apprentice were asleep. But to his relief, the small tortoiseshell she-cat’s eyes were open, though she was staring at nothing. “Oh, Turtlepaw, you’re awake!” He meowed with relief. “Hawkfrost?” The RiverClan apprentice replied, and a light seemed to enter her otherwise dead green eyes. She tried to get up and greet the RiverClan warrior, but she let out a small yip of pain and flopped back down. Hawkfrost ran his nose through Turtlepaw’ s tortoiseshell and white fur gently. “How are you?” He asked gently. “In pain.” She replied bluntly. Her face revealed the truth in her statement, and seeing that made Hawkfrost feel like his heart had been ripped out and thrown to a badger. He prodded Mothwing in the side, none too gently. Her amber eyes opened, sticky and heavy with sleep. “What is it Hawkfrost?” She murmured. “Turtlepaw’s awake, but in pain. Can you get her some poppy seeds?” The RiverClan warrior demanded. Mothwing was instantly awake and quickly woke her apprentice. She instantly proceeded to examine Turtlepaw, who kept looking nervously at Hawkfrost. “I don’t want to give you too many, as you were unconscious for quite a while, but I’ll give you some so the pain’s bearable.” The medicine cat quickly diagnosed. Turtlepaw nodded weakly. “I got to go. I’ll visit you later and look forward to you going back to your training.” Hawkfrost mewed softly. Turtlepaw nodded slowly, though doubt flickered in her eyes at the words ’training.’
At moonhigh after the last Gathering, Mistyfoot prodded Hawkfrost in the side. “What is it?” The warrior growled, ill-tempered at being awoken from his nice, calm, dreamless sleep. Mistyfoot’s blue eyes looked unhappy. “Leopardstar wants us to raid ThunderClan.” The deputy mewed. Hawkfrost scrambled to his paws, excited. RiverClan would get more territory. Eagerly he gave himself a quick wash and went to join the patrol. It consisted of Mistyfoot, Stonepelt, Cloudfoot, Dapplestream, Pebbleclaw, and Flamepaw. Hawkfrost followed the patrol, the blood roaring in his ears. The ambition of the father he rejected still rushed through him.

Chapter Fifteen RiverClan had sprayed scent markers all over a rather large chunk of ThunderClan territory. And they waited defiantly, daring a warrior to come attack. They stood, still silent shadows in the night. Suddenly there was a loud yowl and a bundle of black fur landed a hairsbreadth away from Hawkfrost. He leaped back, snarling with surprise. But instantly he leapt on her, sinking his white fangs into the back of her neck. Mistyfoot dragged him off her as she began to go genuinely limp; not faking as a strategy. “We will not kill another cat on their own territory!” She hissed. But the deputy’s words fell on deaf ears. He saw Brambleclaw. The scum. Yowling furiously, he charged him. Brambleclaw turned away from fighting Beechfur just as Hawkfrost leapt into the air. Hawkfrost seemed to stay suspended in the air for a few seconds, and Brambleclaw also seemed frozen. Then the moment was over, and Brambleclaw began to flip on his back, but was a split-second too late. Hawkfrost’s paws pushed against the ThunderClan deputy’s ribs, knocking the wind out of him. Brambleclaw gasped, and Hawkfrost gripped his throat with thorn-sharp fangs, tasting his enemy’s blood. Brambleclaw kicked out at the RiverClan warrior and scrambled to his paws. Brambleclaw darted away, knowing he had no chance of winning. But Hawkfrost wanted to avenge the death of the old Hawkfrost. The RiverClan warrior continued rushing at Brambleclaw, occasionally scraping at his enemy’s haunches, slowing him down. Suddenly Brambleclaw slowed down, and Hawkfrost skidded to a halt, bumping into the ThunderClan deputy. This time Brambleclaw was more prepared. He leapt onto Hawkfrost, his amber eyes blazing with fury. Getting close to the enemy warrior’s ear, he whispered, “I’m a cat of honor. I don’t kill needlessly…that is, I don’t kill other cats of honor needlessly.” And Brambleclaw sank his teeth into the back of Hawkfrost’s throat. The world spun. Things were going dark, very, very dark. Then there was a flash of blue-gray. The two deputies, Mistyfoot and Brambleclaw, were locked in a vicious tussle. But Hawkfrost’s relief was quickly replaced with horror. He now realized why Brambleclaw had stopped; they were near the ground that dropped deeply into the hollow. “Mistyfoot!” He yowled in warning, but it was too late. The two rolled over the edge. There a loud yowl followed by a thud, and then wails of grief as the ThunderClan deputy landed on the ground, dying instantly. Hawkfrost ran to the edge, looking for Mistyfoot’s body. But she was alive. Grasping at the plants into the smoothly cut rock, the RiverClan deputy slowly hauled herself up. Finally she reached high enough up so she could grasp the rock edge. Thinking she was safe, the blue-gray RiverClan deputy made a fatal mistake. She relased her hind legs from the rock face she gripped. Her claws unsheathed as she began to slide. “Hawkfrost! Help!” Mistyfoot yowled. Instantly, Hawkfrost was there, and he gripped her scruff. Her grip on the rock released slightly. She was almost to safety. But it was like some ferocious monster had possessed Hawkfrost. His ice-blue eyes narrowed as he glared down at his deputy, at the cat who had saved his life. He walked as close to the edge as he could, Mistyfoot dangling in his jaws. “Hawkfrost what in the name of…” “Can’t talk. Can’t hold on any longer.” The dark brown tabby tom growled menacingly, and flung her forward. Her surprised and terrified wail rang through the air, snapping Hawkfrost back to reality. “What have I done?” He whispered to himself.
